Greek OCR

Greek OCR that reads Greek documents the way a Greek reader does

Upload scanned PDFs, photos, invoices and contracts in Greek. DocuSearch AI turns them into accurate, searchable text with the accents intact and the tables still tables, then answers your questions about them with a citation to the page.

No card required. Hosted in the EU. Documents never leave Europe.

Why generic OCR struggles with Greek

Greek is not just another alphabet to a scanner

Most OCR tools treat Greek as "supported" because the letters are in their model. The errors show up later, when you try to find something.

Accents that change the word

The tonos and dialytika are small marks that ordinary engines drop or misplace. DocuSearch preserves them, so the text you get back is spelled the way it was printed.

πόλη (city) ≠ πολύ (very) ≠ πολή

Greek and Latin look-alikes

Α and A, Ο and O, Ρ and P, Τ and T are different characters that look identical. Mixing them up produces words that look right on screen and never match a search.

ΑΡΟΤΡΟ typed with Latin A, P, O, T is unfindable

Tables, stamps and two languages per page

Greek invoices, contracts and public-sector forms mix Greek body text with Latin company names, codes and English clauses, usually inside tables. DocuSearch keeps the table structure and reads both scripts in one pass.

| ΑΦΜ | VAT ID | Ποσό | → stays a table
After the OCR

Text is the beginning, not the result

Free online OCR tools hand you a text file and stop. DocuSearch keeps going: your Greek documents become a library you can search and question.

Search that understands Greek declension

Looking for τιμολόγιο also finds τιμολογίου and τιμολόγια. Accents and capitals are ignored when matching, so ΤΙΜΟΛΟΓΙΟ on a stamped header matches too. Numbers, dates and reference codes match exactly.

Ask questions, get the page

"What is the total on invoice 0417 and when is it due?" is answered from your own documents in Greek or English, with a citation to the file and page the answer came from, so you can check it.

Export to Word or PDF

The recognised text keeps headings, tables and the images extracted from the page. Export the result as an editable DOCX or a PDF, or keep working with it inside DocuSearch.

Processed and stored in the EU

The application runs on Microsoft Azure in France. OCR and answers come from Mistral AI, a French company, through its EU endpoint. GDPR is the default, not an add-on: export or delete everything from your account at any time.

Choosing a Greek OCR tool

How the options compare

Each of these is a reasonable choice for a different job. The question is what you need to happen after the text comes out.

How it works

From a scan to an answer in four steps

1

Upload

Drop PDFs or photos into a folder, or connect Dropbox and let it sync. Multi-page scans are fine.

2

OCR

Each page is read by Mistral OCR. Blank or garbled pages are detected and flagged instead of being indexed silently.

3

Index

The text is split into passages and indexed for both meaning and exact matches, with Greek stemming and accent folding.

4

Ask

Search or ask a question. Answers cite the file and page; exports go to Word or PDF.

Who uses Greek OCR

Built for the paper that Greek work still runs on

Accounting offices

Years of supplier invoices, receipts and bank statements become searchable by ΑΦΜ, amount, date or supplier, and questions like "which invoices from 2024 are still unpaid?" get an answer with sources.

Law firms and notaries

Scanned contracts, court filings and deeds, often mixing Greek with English or French clauses, become a library you can search for a clause, a name or a date across every file.

Companies with a Greek branch

Teams abroad can search Greek paperwork they cannot read fluently, and ask questions in English about documents written in Greek.

Public bodies and archives

Decades of typed and printed records, digitised once and then actually findable, with per-folder access control for sensitive material.

Researchers and students

Photographed library pages, theses and journal scans in Greek become quotable, searchable text with the structure kept.

Anyone with a drawer of Greek paper

Leases, insurance policies, medical reports: photograph them, upload them, and ask what they say.

Frequently asked

Questions about Greek OCR

Does DocuSearch AI do OCR for Greek?

Yes. DocuSearch AI is built for modern Greek documents: scanned PDFs, photos of paper, invoices, contracts and public-sector forms. Accents (tonos and dialytika) are preserved, tables come out as tables, and pages that mix Greek with Latin names, codes or English paragraphs are handled on the same pass.

Does it handle polytonic or ancient Greek?

It is designed and tested for modern monotonic Greek. Polytonic text is recognised on a best-effort basis. The free trial includes 20 pages, so you can check your own material before paying anything.

How accurate is the Greek OCR?

Accuracy depends mostly on the scan: a clean 300 dpi office scan reads almost perfectly, a photographed fax does not. We would rather you measure it on your own documents than trust a single number, which is why the first 20 pages are free. Pages that come back blank or garbled are detected and flagged rather than silently indexed.

Can I search Greek text with different word endings?

Yes. Search understands Greek declension, so looking for τιμολόγιο also finds τιμολογίου and τιμολόγια, and it ignores accent differences, so ΤΙΜΟΛΟΓΙΟ matches too. This is where most generic OCR tools stop: they give you text, not a way to find things in it.

Where are my Greek documents processed and stored?

In the European Union. The application runs on Microsoft Azure in France Central, and OCR and AI answers are provided by Mistral AI, a French company, through its EU endpoint. Your document content does not leave the EU.

Which file types can I upload?

PDF, scanned images (PNG, JPG, WEBP, TIFF, BMP) and Office files. Results export to Word (DOCX) or PDF, and the recognised text is also kept as Markdown with the tables and extracted images.

What does it cost?

The trial is free: 20 OCR pages and 10 AI questions, no card required. Paid plans add monthly pages, storage and team workspaces; current prices are on the pricing page.
